Fooled by Cardio? Here's the Better Way

Aerobics are a waste of time. You can burn fat and improve your health without cardio. Long, slow to moderate intensity cardio training, which is what you see most people still doing in the gym, is not really the best way to shed fat.

Interval training, which is periods of short hard exercise followed by short periods of recovery, works better for fat loss, according to both Canadian and Australian researchers (plus hundreds of advanced trainers throughout the world).

An interval might last 30 seconds to 60 seconds, and it would be hard work, harder than normal cardio. Each work interval is followed by 30 to 90 seconds of very easy pace. So if you're running on a treadmill you might run at 7 mph for your work interval and then go all the way down to 3 mph for a walk for your rest. That's what we use instead of slow cardio. All it takes is 20 minutes of interval training to get better results than 40 or 60 minutes of slow cardio.

Now the research and experience is showing that the intervals not only as effective, but it's even more effective in most cases. And also you're doing fewer repetitions. So, you know, every time you run we'll count that as repetitions, so if you run for 60 minutes you're looking at maybe 3,000, 4,000 repetitions in a slow cardio workout where you're doing probably one-third of that or even one-fifth of that in interval workout.

And that leads to less overuse injuries and that's one of the big problems with long slow cardio is that a lot of people end up in the physiotherapy office getting some type of therapy for their overuse injuries. Runners are in there all the time getting their injuries looked after.

So, we're trying to cut back on the volume of work, cutting back on the quantity and focusing on the quality. And like I said, we started off just by doing it to save time and now we're also finding out that we're actually getting more results.

Pick from a big variety of interval methods. It doesn't just have to be running on a treadmill. Clients have started to incorporate a lot of jump rope intervals, which jump rope can be very intense, so I think that's a great, you know, just think of ways that you can make things fun and things that you may enjoy doing.

You might not enjoy running, so find something that you do enjoy doing like jump roping or maybe getting on a stationary bike, but do it, make it real intense for a shorter period of time, then back up that intensity and do a interval type workout and I think you're going to have fun doing it.

To me it's more fun than walking for an hour on a treadmill and you're going to get more benefit out of it and it's going to take a less amount of time. Less amount of workout time, better results, and more fun. You're looking at probably at least a dozen different ways you can do interval training. Sports are intervals. And again that's more fun. You can also do biking or rowing. There's all types of traditional cardio machine that can be used.

We also use sometimes kettlebells and we also use body weight circuits, which are not really interval training but they're not strength training and they're definitely not cardio, but we find that body weight circuits are beneficial in a whole bunch of different ways.

They like interval training to help burn calories and lose body fat, but also because most people are doing exactly what we're doing right now, which is sitting in a chair all day, they're either driving or they're at work and they're in that one posture. Then they get in an elliptical machine and it's not much different.

Don't get stuck in a rut. Move your body.

So there's a whole lot to be said for the body weight circuit training. You can definitely find some of my circuit training videos on YouTube, will give you lots of ideas, but basically what we do there is we generally will take an upper body exercise and a lower body exercise or a whole bunch of them and we'll alternate between upper and lower. Maybe we'll do six or eight exercises in a circuit, take a minute rest, and then go through that again.

Twenty minutes of that, it goes by a lot faster. Interval training goes by a lot faster than regular cardio. Cardio is slow and boring. Bodyweight training is not. Interval training is over fast.

So what we're really trying to do is show people that there's so many other options to getting a better body than what they've read in the muscle magazines or Shape Magazine for the last 20 years since the 1980s that you have to do an hour of circuit training with machines and then an hour on the cardio machine.

That's not a great way to live life and it's not the best way to get results, especially when you look at the body in terms of everything from not only how it looks but also how it moves with the mobility.

And these days were just so immobile in our daily lives that we need to get more movement patterns into our training sessions. And again it's more variety and a lot more fun. So drop the slow cardio and do some type of fat burning interval training to lose belly fat.

Use fast fat burning workouts with bodyweight exercises and interval training

Weight Loss Detox FAQ

It's a well known fact that our modern lifestyle creates a great deal of pollution, chemicals, radiation etc. that attack our bodies every day. What you may not know is that our bodies retain excess fat to protect our kidneys, liver and other organs from these toxins. As we flush and cleanse ourselves of these toxins, the body releases fat stores and we lose weight in a safe and healthy way that's long term. Here are some common questions:

Why do I need to detox? Everyday, our bodies take in a wide assortment of toxins and pollutants. It is an unfortunate by product of our modern lifestyle. There are many different chemicals in our food, pollution in the air, bacteria and metals in our water and so on (for instance alcohol, tobacco, pesticides, herbicides, air pollution, heavy metals, food additives, oral contraceptives, and drugs).

Toxins can wreak havoc on our health in the form of carcinogens and free radicals which can cause fatigue, serious illness and premature aging. The outcome of a successful and well-planned detox can help you recover from illness, increase your energy, boost your immune system, help you lose weight, clear your skin and much more...

Do I have to fast or starve myself? No. A common misconception is that detoxing or cleansing the body involves restricting your food and basically starving yourself for days on end. A perfect example of an unscientific detox is the 'Lemonade Diet'. This detox fad involves consuming nothing but homemade lemonade for up to 14 days and beyond! There is no science to back up any claims that such detox fads help the body detoxify in a safe or healthy way. Most people find that they put all the weight back on, plus extra pounds once this kind of a cleanse is over.

Okay, so what do I eat while I detox? To give your body the tools it needs to detoxify, cleanse and regenerate, a detox must give the body even more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than normal. You want to eat foods rich in essential nutrients and antioxidants that enable your body to flush the toxins and pollutants that have accumulated over your lifetime. To this end, we recommend learning more about the Weight Loss Detox which contains recipes, daily meal plans and a complete shopping list.

Can I lose weight effectively while I detox? Yes. A proper detox program will require that you eat the most nutritious foods possible. By eating these foods, you will detox safely and also lose weight. You can expect to lose between 3-7 pounds over a 7 day period. The best part is that you will see many other benefits besides weight loss. You will also lower your cholesterol, blood pressure, boost your immune system, have much more energy etc.

I've heard some people have bad reactions to a detox... What happens? When detoxing, some people experience what is known as a 'detox flu' or 'detox crisis'. As your body systematically cleanses itself of toxins and pollution, some people experience headaches, nausea, cold-like symptoms (blocked nose, shivers etc), spots and pimples. These symptoms are mild and usually last for a short while. The best medicine is to drink lots of fluids to help speed up the toxin flushing process. If symptoms persist, however, you should go see your doctor.

Can I Continue My Exercise Routine? Light exercise improves circulation which helps carry toxins out of the body. Some forms of exercise are beneficial to cleansing and detoxing, such as gentle jogging, walking or rebounding - however you should try not to place undue stress on the body during this time.

The No Excuses Workout

I saw a great thing today. I left my office for a meeting right before lunch. I returned at around noon. As I drove up to the top floor of the parking garage I saw something I had not seen before. I usually am in my office so I was unaware of all the walkers we had in our building. The parking garage has nine levels. On each level I saw at least one pair of people in sweats walking either up or down the levels.

Now, I would not recommend this if your parking garage is prone to people speeding and zipping through, as it would become a safety issue. I did like the idea of walking in pairs. Not only does it give you someone you can talk to, but it also keeps you accountable to someone should you not feel like exercising. Your walking buddy could push you to exercise or vice versa.

Most of the people that work in other offices in our building usually have a one hour lunch break. As I drove up I could not help but feel anxious to write this article. These people are taking exercise to a whole new level, no pun intended. They are taking away the excuse factor. For those of us that have said in the past that we do not have enough time to exercise, we no longer have an excuse.

Taking time out during our lunch break not only helps to burn some extra calories, but it also gets us energized for the rest of the day. Using the parking garage walkers as an example, we see that our lunch hour could also become our exercise hour. I remember when I was younger and would visit my brother at work. He and his co-workers would walk across the street to a basketball court and play basketball on their lunch break.

I am not saying that you should round up your office mates for some full court running, but use it as a way to spark some ideas. You could also go jogging on your break. If you work close to a pool or a beach, you could swim some laps. If you work close to a gym you could lift some weights or do some cardio work. Get creative, make it fun and stop making excuses for yourself.

Weight Loss For The Busy Woman

"Weight Loss Basics & You"

There are so many things to juggle today: career, family, continued education, down time, spiritual life and more. To find time to focus on weight loss, here are some basic tips to help:

1) First, congratulate yourself for getting this far and seeking this information. Cheers! You've made the first step towards healthy self-improvement - yeah!

2) The basic rate of weight loss for long-term is only two to three pounds per week. So don't try to lose too much too fast.

3) Talk with your healthcare provider before you begin any weight loss program or plan of action to get approval.

4) Review popular options today to find a plan that not only fits your needs but your budget. It needs to include a balanced meal plan, not focusing on only a few food items. And it needs to incorporate exercise or some type of physical fitness into your week regularly. No need for expensive fitness clubs, fancy equipment to buy, special foods to purchase, etc. either. Easy does it for the long haul.

5) No matter which plan you choose or how you may design your own program, if you mess up, move on and continue anyway. No one is perfect in any program. Pick yourself up and keep at it! Journal along the way, too, to find out what triggers your stress and overeating.

"Self Assessment"

Learning more about your self will help you to learn more about how best to handle your own weight loss and juggling. You need to know that:

1) Your weight loss needs to be done now. And realize that unless you decide to take control of your life, you will consistently gain weight again once you go off any diet or exercise regime you decide to follow.

2) In the time it takes for you to order a meal, stand around waiting for it and then eat it - sometimes with music you can't stand blaring in the background of a noisy fast food joint with babies crying around you, too, it is entirely possible that you could have found a more nutritious meal elsewhere - like at home, cheaper.

3) You may actually enjoy making and choosing your own healthy foods if you get rid of some of the other activities you do in your life and stay home more.

"Food & Cravings Basics"

If life were so simple, we could eat what we want, when we want. But let's get realistic. We all need food and we all suffer cravings at one time or another. But enjoy weight loss anyway, with these tips:

1) A good diet, one approved by your healthcare provider, is a must for everyone. You need a good variety of nutritional foods from all the food groups.

2) If you're thinking about a diet plan that only offers a selection of foods from one or two food groups (like a grapefruit-only diet), don't try this. You can't do it long term and will only harm yourself, your body more.

3) Don't go food shopping when you're hungry. At least have a snack before your go out or consider fortifying yourself with a cup of tea or coffee just before you go.

"Quick Meals"

There's nothing better for busy schedules than quick recipes and meal ideas.
So enjoy!

Fresh Fruit Salad

Serves: 1 person
Preparation time: 10 minutes

You will need:1 Apple of your choice
1 peeled and sectioned Orange
A handful of fresh Strawberries (if in season)
A handful of other berries if no Strawberries
1 medium sized Banana
A handful of raisins
A handful of grapes
Cantaloupe if in season, or Watermelon
4-6oz. Orange juice or other juice of your choice

Method: Start with the cantaloupe or watermelon and work your way upwards. (A melon baller comes in very handy if you like to have a morning fruit salad, and makes things look nice.)

Go on to the grapes, the unseeded variety is the best, proceed with the berry variety that you have and work your way to the orange.

From the orange, go next to the apple, and then the banana. All your fruits should be of bite sized and manageable portions. Add a drop of vanilla for a heavenly smell, along with the orange juice for added zest.

I have found this to create a very hearty breakfast all by itself, and the smell of the fruits is a wonderful way to greet the day with. A cup of coffee washes this lot down very nicely and you will find that a piece of toast never goes wrong either!

"Exercises"

Regardless of which weight loss plan or program you tackle, you need regular activity or exercise in your day. No need for expensive gyms, equipment and memberships, though. Get busy with these exercise and activity ideas:

1) Before you begin any fitness plan, check with your healthcare provider for approval ?

2) Exercise while you're watching television and stop being just a couch potato! YOU can do basic push ups, sit ups and more during commercials. Or plug in a video and move it, dude?

3) Forget about driving anywhere. Grab your bike or walk! Increase length of activity and intensity over time, too.

4) Buddy up for fun. Grab your spouse, kids, neighbors, relatives - and get healthy together!

5) Log your activity regularly in a personal journal. Also note your weight loss efforts, favorite foods, special recipes and meals and other cool weight loss info. This is your special personal journal, so enjoy it - add stickers, use high lighters, colored markers and pencils. Jot down your goals and progress so you'll have a keepsake.

Drink Water To Lose Weight?

so can you really drink water to lose weight? Well in short the simple answer is yes. You can indeed drink water to lose weight for a few reasons. Water acts to suppress your hunger and it can also raise your metabolism a little. Combined with a low fat diet its simple to see that you should increase your water intake.

Drinking water throughout the day can actually act to suppress your hunger. Another thing is sometimes you mistake your hunger for thirst. I know this sounds crazy but its actually true. So I can already hear a lot of you out there saying "hey I can tell the difference between when I'm hungry and thirsty!"

This may be true to a certain extent, we all obviously know we are hungry when we have not had anything to eat all day right? Its much harder to tell sometimes though when we are just a little hungry, and your body can actually make you think your hungry when your actually thirsty.this is why you should drink water to lose weight.

Another reason water works to help your weight loss efforts is because it can actually raise your metabolism a little. Your stomach has something in it so it gets to working, but nothing major. Its certainly better then having an empty stomach though, plus it can act as a filler just because sometimes in your stomach. Weight Loss Incentive

Sometimes we don't feel motivated to diet unless we have a compelling weight loss incentive.

Let's face it. How can we spend the next several weeks or months sacrificing all of the foods that we love? How can we go without sweets, breads, and fatty foods? We all know that the ultimate incentive is the weight loss. Nevertheless, our minds are oftentimes not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve our goals because the road to get there is fraught with hardships.

What if you could find a diet that addresses all of your concerns? If you could follow a diet that allowed you to eat as much as you want to your satisfaction, would you follow it? If you could follow a diet that required you to eat plentiful food from each of the four major food groups, would you take it on? If you knew that you had the flexibility to choose your own personalized menu plan, and that you were required to eat four full meals every day, would you jump on the chance? What if you knew that by following the diet plan, you would lose 9 pounds every 11 days? If you could follow a diet that requires you to take a mandatory 3-day break from your diet every two weeks, would that be motivation enough to follow it?

This is not just wishful thinking. These are some of the weight loss incentives that constitute a real diet plan. The calorie shifting diet is a revolutionary new diet regimen that is gaining widespread popularity and joining the ranks of the other "mainstream" diet plans out there.

Calorie shifting is basically a diet plan that focuses not on the quantity of the food you eat, but the deliberate regrouping of which foods you eat when. By shifting the types of calories you eat from meal to meal, you can trigger the appropriate metabolic response in your body that induces the burning of fat. It doesn't matter how much you eat, but what you eat and when, that achieves this effect.

Do you want to see yourself being 9 pounds lighter in the next 11 days? The Calorie Shifting Diet will get you there! Learn how at: http://www.CalorieShiftingDiet.info

5 Tips to Lose Weight the Fastest & Healthiest Way Possible

Fast, healthy weight loss is not only achievable, but it can also be long-term weight loss. Even though it took time to reach this uncomfortable weight gain, no one wants to workout and eat right and get their results slowly. Fast Weight Loss does not have to mean starving through the day, living on fluids and a single meal. Believe it or not there is a natural and healthy way to lose weight quickly and some what effortlessly.

There are 5 things that you can do to maximize your weight loss. These tips can help you lose weight quickly and in the healthiest way possible.

1) Drink Plenty of Water - I know, you heard this a thousand times. I did too, before I took it serious. Let's just remind ourselves of the benefits of drinking more water. The most important reason to drink plenty of water is because it keeps your body well hydrated. When your body is dehydrated it tends to hold onto excess water weight. the next major reason is that drinking water helps your body eliminate toxins built up in your system and encourage elimination both through the bowels and kidneys.

2) Add More Fiber - It's not necessary to take a fiber supplement in order to add more fiber to your diet. There are some great foods that have a high fiber content that should be a part of your daily diet. Some of them are: Apples (5g), bran cereals (8g), whole wheat bread (4g per slice), grapefruit (6g), 1 cup broccoli(6g). These are just a few choices. It's recommended that you get at least 25-30 grams of fiber a day, so if you have 2 apples, 1 bowel of bran cereal(raisin bran is good choice), 2 slices of whole wheat bread and 1 cup of broccoli, you've covered your daily requirement.

3) Eat 5-6 times a day waiting 3 hours before meals - You can turn your metabolism into a fuel burning furnace by eating frequently during the day. 5- 6 mini meals during the day will keep your metabolism high. This technique signals your metabolism and telling it that there is fuel constantly coming in ready to be burned (which is true). So your metabolism burns what comes in and some of the stored energy just to keep up and make room for the constant supply of food.

I remember when I learned this little trick, I was surprised to see just how fast I dropped pounds. It's nice to know that you are actually allowed to "eat" while losing weight.

4) Completely eliminate or at least drastically reduce the sugar - Sugar is one of the most over looked cause of weight gain. Don't be misled by the fact that it doesn't contain fat. Sugar can cause a huge spike in your insulin production which can shut down your fat burning capacity and keeps it low which will promote fat storage.

5) Supplements to add to your daily diet - Add Enzymes, a good Multi-vitamin, and Green Tea to your daily diet. Adding Enzymes to your diet can improve your digestion and make sure that you have maximum absorption of nutrients in your food.

Taking a good multivitamin will make sure you get all of the essential vitamins and minerals that help regulate and support the function of key organs such as liver, kidneys and heart.

Green Tea is a superior tea because it contains polyphenols which inhibits the growth of cancer cells. This tea also lowers cholesterol, gives you energy and helps suppress appetite. All without the usual side effects of other diet stimulants.

Applying the 5 tips can help kick your fat burning weight losing furnace into overdrive. Making you lose the weight a lot quicker and get lean a lot sooner.

Target Heart Rate: Worthless?

Not long ago, before a severe heat wave struck our region, I got together with a few of my co-workers to play tennis one evening after work. I really love to play tennis even though Ive never progressed beyond the intermediate hacker level.

I do have a few brief flashes of what appears to be a game, but thats usually overshadowed by a host of botched shots, which I like to refer to as unforced errors.

The temperature was in the low 80s and the average age of my colleagues is around 30. At 49, Im the senior citizen in the group, but I felt I could hang with them.

Im not sure if it was the heat or being out of condition, but after about 20 minutes I had to excuse myself and take a breather. I really didnt feel very good and I didnt want to take any chances, but after a 5-minute rest I caught my second wind and played for another hour and a half.

I felt somewhat embarrassed because my co-workers know how fanatical I am about running off to the gym at lunchtime to workout. It also hit home that maybe Im not in very good cardio-vascular shape! It really made me rethink my training regimen.

My first thought was maybe all this emphasis on staying in the fat-burning heart rate zone was really just a false sense of complacency. Maybe what I really needed to be doing was getting my heart rate up much higher and working on improving my cardio conditioning. At least this would be the best way to improve my stamina on the tennis court.

The other harsh reality is that all this so-called fat burning training wasnt really burning very much fat!

Coincidentally, I recently came across an article that discussed a book entitled The Heart Rate Monitor Guidebook by Sally Edwards. She states, The 220 minus your age formula is worthless. She advises that you determine your maximum heart by using the Sub-Max Step Test.

This simple test is performed by stepping up and down on an 8-inch step for 3 minutes without pausing and then taking your heart rate during the third minute. I just did this test today at the gym. I used one of those step aerobic platforms, which works great by the way.

Once you have your heart rate, she then advises that you add an estimate factor to it based on your fitness level:

Poor shape = 55
Average shape = 65
Excellent shape = 75

You then take 70% 80% of this number to get your fat-burning target heart rate.

My results from the step test were:

144 bpm at the end of 3 minutes
144 + 65 (assume average shape) = 209 bpm
.70 * 209 = 146 bpm (target fat-burning heart rate)

80% would be 167 bpm, which quite frankly I think would kill me. She advises not to go over 90%. Dont worry Sally, theres no chance of that happening!

Please be very careful when performing this test as well as calculating your sub-max heart rate. As you can see, this number will most likely be substantially higher than the old method:

200 49 = 171 bpm
.70 * 171 = 120 bpm

What it looks like to me is that this sub-max method actually puts your fat-burning heart rate closer to your cardio-conditioning heart rate derived with the old method. This seems to make sense. Highly conditioned athletes in sports such as basketball usually arent carry around a lot of body fat!

So if you feel that your training and conditioning are at an intermediate to advanced level, you may want to take up the intensity of your workouts and see if the fat starts to melt away -- like I do on a hot summer evening while playing tennis!

New Years Weight Loss

Many people in America struggle with their weight. This struggle often intensifies with the coming of the New Year and the resolutions we all make. In the midst of the pressure to resolve or enhance one's life, many dieters feel like they should try to make yet another attempt at a New Years weight loss program. However, this attempt normally comes out of a quick and pressured decision to get on the resolution bandwagon and shed those extra pounds. As a result, most New Years weight loss programs only last for at most a few months before we end up going back to our old eating habits, and we once again bid adieu to our resolution to have a new body, new weight, more energy and healthier eating plan.

This year, try to prepare in advance. Go into the dieting season with a plan of action, goals and dedication to your goals. Here are some ideas:

Tips on how to make the right diet resolutions -

1) Prepare in advance. Many people fail in their New Years weight loss programs because they choose a diet in haste and don't have enough information and they don't understand the diet concepts.

2) Play matchmaker. The first step in creating a personalized weight loss plan is understanding your dieting style. Here are some questions to help you choose the right weight loss program for your needs.

A) What type of foods do you like?

B) Are you willing to alter your eating habits?

C) Are you willing to engage in regular physical activity?

D) Do you lead a busy lifestyle?

E) Are you looking to lose weight and then maintain that weight loss?

F) Why do you want to go on a diet?

3) Educate yourself. Now that you have answered the above questions, you probably have a good idea as to how, when and why you diet. These answers are important as they provide road signs pointing to what diet may be right for you.

For example, if you like eating all foods and want a flexible and long-term diet then it's likely the Weight Watchers diet is a good fit. Alternatively, if you like eating lots of meat, fish, cheese and eggs then the South Beach Diet plan may be for you. The fact is there are many diets; it's more a matter of finding the right one for you, than listening to what other people have done. Choosing a well-matched diet for your individual tastes and character and this will give you greater chances of weight loss success.

4) Don't set your sights too high. When dieting, it's important to take baby-steps and work up to your goal rather than setting a far-reaching goal the very first time. Therefore, to ensure you're successful, set attainable monthly goals. If you're not sure what to shoot for, one pound per week, or 4 pounds per month is a good weight loss pace.

5) Finally, Embrace your decision. Once you've become acquainted with your dieting personality, educated yourself on the many weight loss programs and weight loss products available, chosen the one that suits you best and set realistic goals you're in a much better position to diet. So make your diet plan, pat yourself on the back, embrace your decision to lose weight healthily and get started.

Dieting for weight loss management and better health is a gift. There are many people in the world who don't even have enough food to eat on a day to day basis, therefore, this year look at dieting from a completely different perspective. Consider your ability to diet, eat well and select healthy foods a blessing rather than a chore.

Weight Loss Diet Recipe That Can Reduces Over Weight

A changing environment has broadened food options and eating habits. While such foods are fast and convenient they also tend to be high in fat, sugar, and calories. Choosing many foods from these areas may contribute to an excessive calorie intake. Some foods are marketed as healthy, low fat, or fat-free, but may contain more calories than the fat containing food they are designed to replace. Pre-packaged foods, fast food restaurants, and soft drinks are more accessible. It is important to read food labels for nutritional information and to eat in moderation.

Food is more powerful than any prescription weight loss pills, because the food that you eat can either make you THIN or FAT. You don't get fat because of a lack of exercising, that's a myth. You get fat because you don't eat the right foods at the right intervals each day. You can get slim by eating the right foods at the right intervals each day.

Creating effective nutrition plans to help you reach your fat loss is important. With a little research and planning you can create a weight loss diet recipe. You just need to learn about feeding your body correctly and identify what will be a fit for you. It will probably mean a conscious effort to change habits, since the old habits got you where you're at and you don't want to go there again. The two biggest reasons people give up their diet programs are impatience and unrealistic expectations regarding the time, effort and results of a safe and lasting weight loss process. Once you are up and running with your own plan, then you'll be able to be more consistent at staying with your diet.

Here are some popular weight loss diet recipes which can help you to get over weight loss:

Atkins Diet

Basically, it's a low-carb, high-protein diet. While you can enjoy as much protein as possible, including: meat, chicken, eggs, cheese, butter, and all of the side dishes which are loaded with fat content, but you cannot have any carbohydrates such as bread, fruit, rice, sugar, milk, pasta, or potatoes.

How To Lose 15 Pounds In 2 Weeks

Aiming at losing 15 pounds in 2 weeks means that you have to lose over a pound per day. This is doable but will require a great effort. There are two things you need to do, you have to find a great weight loss diet and you have to do exercising. I assume that you don't exercise today and even if you are, something isn't working the way you want it to.

To start exercising requires a determination that you are going to do this, you are going to lose those 15 pounds no matter what. So I want you to focus on that part of your weight loss. There are new great programs that are targeted fat burners and better yet, the burn fat all day and all night long. These workouts are based on a combination of cardio exercising and weight lifting. You might wonder why you have to do weight lifting and the answer to that is simply that you do not want to lose muscle mass. If you go on a diet alone there is the risk of massive loss of muscles and consequently your ability to burn fat decreases. Ok? You don't want to lose that ability.

So, the purpose of the exercising is to burn the fat and keep the muscle. There is a workout called turbulence training and this combines the two types of exercising well. It will increase the metabolism of fat and leave the muscles alone.

Since I assumed that you don't workout at the present I want you to focus on this and that requires a weight loss diet that gives you the energy that you need for exercising and also the diet can't be to hard to follow because if it is the likely outcome is that you quit the program and loses no weight at all.

A simple diet is the calorie shifting diet. This diet allows you to eat a decent amount of food and you get every kind of nutrient. The target for this diet is also the metabolism of fat and that means that you have both your diet and your exercise working in the same direction and thus making it possible to lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. This gives an effect that is greater than each part on its own and the sum of the two.

Jennifer Olsen was a master of failing at different diets. She understood that there were more to losing weight then just going on a diet. Today she has lost nearly 50 pounds with the calorie-shifting diet and meanwhile she has finished reading 'Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle' and she is implementing what she learned into daily activities.

She made a mini-site that gives examples of diets, complete fast weight loss diets and reviews of books that helped her stop living the unhealthy life and turning around into a more healthy life-style. If you are interested in learning more please Click Here!

12 Tips for a Fat Burning Diet

Have you tried to lose weight and failed? Have you ever started a diet that seemed to work well in the beginning but suddenly you found that you didn't lose weight anymore? If so than you are not alone. The human body's metabolism makes weight loss difficult. In fact losing weight is a complicated process. It is a complex inter-play of many biochemical metabolic processes. The argument that a negative caloric diet could lead to automatic loss of weight is too simplistic and does not apply to all.

Many people who stick to a calorie-reduced diet don't lose weight as fast as they think they should. That's because they activate metabolic protection. Their body senses starvation and shuts down fat burning in order to conserve fat as an emergency energy source. Hence the key to losing weight is to induce the body to turn on its metabolic processes in particular the fat burning metabolism.

The key to doing that should involve three interrelated processes namely:
Conditioning the body for optimal fat burning
Reducing fat absorption from other sources and inducing
Triggering the body's natural fat burning metabolism

Don't worry is this sound complicated. The above information has been condensed in the form of 12 easy tips to promote the body to burn fat all day long and thus lose weight easily.

Tip 1 Do not go hungry

While it is true that you need to cut down your caloric intake you should not cut down too drastically so much so that you feel hungry. It's a good idea to have an idea of how much calorie you need to consume given your weight in order to spread your spread consumption adequately throughout the day. Excessive caloric reduction could cause the body metabolism to hit the brakes. It will also begin to break down muscle tissue for energy. The best strategy would be to eat just enough so that you are not hungry but at the same time induce the body to increase its metabolism. A midmorning snack and mid-afternoon snack of about 150 calories will do the trick.

Tip 2 Drink plenty of water

This is probably the most important tip of all. Almost all of us are guilty of consuming too little water. We need to remember that metabolism is a process that requires water. Water is necessary for proper isotonic balance of body fluids and also to help in transportation of waste products of metabolism. When we consume too little water the body tends to slow down metabolism simply because it cannot ensure an optimal metabolism and getting rid of waste products. Therefore the secret to unlocking metabolism starts with drinking enough water. As a general rule we should all consume at least 8 glasses of water a day. Studies have shown drinking enough water could lead to a loss of about 50 calories a day - enough to shed 5 pounds in a year.

Tip 3 Breathe properly

Fat metabolism is a process that also requires oxygen. Therefore a well oxygenated and well hydrated tissue is essential for optimal fat loss. This is the tragedy of modern life as most of us do not drink enough water and also do not use our lung capacity in an optimal manner. According to some research people generally use only about 25% of their lung capacity. Therefore simply learning to breathe properly and deeply would do wonders to enhance fat metabolism. This requires conscious efforts but costs nothing at all.

Tip 4 Eat more iron rich foods

In order to promote efficient oxygen uptake from our breathing we need to eat iron rich foods. Women in particular are at the losing end because they lose iron due their periods. In some women the situation is so bad that their iron levels are very low indeed. By having low iron levels oxygen uptake is inefficient and that directly contributes to their inability to lose weight. Therefore one should eat iron-rich foods such as shellfish, lean meat, beans, cereals and spinach as they are excellent sources of dietary iron.

Tip 5 Consume more vitamin D

Vitamin D has a main role in determining how the body manages energy which directly involves fat metabolism. Unfortunately many of us do not eat enough Vitamin D. You can get your daily requirement of Vitamin D in a three and half ounce serving of salmon. Other great sources of Vitamin D are tofu, tuna, shrimp, fortified milk, cereal and eggs.

Tip 6 Eat plenty of fiber

Everyone needs to add natural fiber to their diet. Research has shown that certain types of fiber such as resistant starch can increase fat metabolism by up to 30%. Resistant starch is formed when foods such as potatoes, grains and beans are cooked and allowed to cool down. Such foods should not be re-heated as it would transform them. They are called resistant starch because they are resistant to quick digestion. Therefore such foods give the feeling of fullness and curbs hunger.

Since resistant starches are resistant to digestion they are also not broken down and stored as fat. Instead what happens is that they get fermented as they get to the large intestine creating small fatty acids called butyrates which inhibit metabolism of carbohydrates. Since the body is deprived of breaking down carbohydrates it breaks down fat instead. A good choice would be to consume at least 20-30 grams a day of such resistant starch daily. This would roughly correspond to about half cup of potato, rice or cereal plus half cup cooked vegetables or one cup of cooked beans and 1 slightly unripe banana.

Tip 7 Drink more milk

Together with Vitamin D calcium too plays an indispensable role in fat metabolism. Therefore drinking milk is actually good if you want to lose weight. New research shows that three or four daily servings of low-fat mail and yogurt can help adjust your body's fat-burning machinery by providing Vitamin D and also by reducing fat absorption from other products.

Tip 8 Eat enough protein

One of the basic things to know is that muscles play a central role in metabolism which explains why greater muscle mass increases metabolism. Protein is necessary for building and maintaining muscle tissues. Research has shown that consuming protein can increase fat metabolism by about 35%. As such it is important to include at least 3 ounces of lean meat or fish or two tablespoon of nuts or 8 ounces of fat-free yogurt to every meal or snack.

Tip 9 Do not skip breakfast

Very often people tend to skip breakfast thinking that they are cutting down calories or simply because of their lifestyle. This is major mistake because the body would misread the lack of food as a threat and lower its metabolism to conserve energy. Therefore it is not surprising that studies show that people who skip breakfast are more likely to be overweight or obese. Therefore it is important not to skip breakfast. At the same time breakfast should not be too greasy, too sweet or overly heavy. An oatmeal breakfast with fat-free milk and a tablespoon of nuts is ideal. If one doesn't have the time a fat-free yogurt is an excellent idea for people on the go.

Tip 10 Drink coffee or tea

Have you ever felt refreshed after a cup of coffee or tea? That is because caffeine is a stimulant that works on the central nervous system. In fact coffee can rev up the metabolism by 5-8%, an equivalent of 98 to 174 calories a day. There is also some evidence that tea also aids weight loss. Therefore consuming coffee or tea as part of our daily diet appears to do more good than harm. However if you suffer from diabetes then you should avoid coffee as it causes blood sugar levels to become elevated. Even if you are diabetic you should go easy on the sugar and cream. In line with the maxim "everything in moderation" I have found that 2 cups a day, in the morning and in the late afternoon, works well for me.

Tip 11 Exercise smart

Effective fat loss requires both a combination of low calories and some level of physical activity. You need not worry about having to stick to some strict exercise regime though it would be great if you can. However do not despair if you cannot because you could also integrate your daily activities into what is known as Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis, or NEAT to boost calorie burning activities. Small movements such as leg movements, stretching, walking up the stairs, or even just standing when talking on the phone can boost calorie burning up to 350 calories a day.

Tip 12 Keep off alcohol

Alcohol slows down fat metabolism. As little as two drinks can slow down fat metabolism by 75 %. In addition alcohol causes dehydration. Dehydration causes your body to lose water and interfere with fat metabolism. Therefore keeping off from alcohol is a very effective way to ensure a high fat metabolism.

Dieting - Max Out Your Weight Loss

Most dieters will experience highs and lows in the results of their weight loss efforts. Figuring out how to max out your weight loss can be complex. Many put in some hard work the first week, eating well and doing their exercise routine. As a result, they do lose the weight, sometimes significant weight loss approaching ten pounds. Of course this is very exciting to the overweight person who then starts visualizing how they will look next week, next month and calculating the total weight loss based on the weight they managed to lose that first week!

The problem with all of that positive thinking is a lot of the weight loss in the first week will be excess water weight.

So the following few weeks the dieter will work harder on the diet, and maybe exercise even more looking forward to looking great sooner than they thought. Then they weight themselves. They only lost two or three pounds in the week. How did that happen? And after all that effort. This can be very discouraging, and possibly lead the dieter to give up, or the more determined dieter will work that much harder and see significant weight loss again.

The determined dieter who takes in very few calories will also hit the brick wall - no weight loss. Why? Because they cut the calories so much their bodies went into starvation mode and started holding on to whatever nourishment they were taking in with a vengeance. Their metabolism has turned on them.

Losing weight is not a simple matter. It is finding a balance between diet and exercise, without kicking your metabolism into low gear. Losing a lot of weight in a short period of time is not usually sustainable. Finding a balance of eating healthy foods and the right amount of exercise is the key weight loss over the long haul.

Learn How to Burn Tummy Fat And Boost Muscle Growth At The Same Time

Most people try to burn tummy fat believing the aerobic exercise - or pumping away mindlessly on a treadmill, riding a stationary bike, or coasting on an elliptical machine, whilst watching the TV screen at their state of the art gym is a great way to lose weight.

But research into study of obesity has shown that for the amount of hours you put into a standard cardio exercise is not that effective for fat burning.

In other words, this indicates that steady pace endurance cardio work may not be all it's cracked up to be.This is the main reason majority of people get bored and lose motivation with their workouts, and quit after a couple months without seeing results.

However, it only requires a simple change to the variety in the intensity level and frequent change in a workout program for more fat burning results in less workout time.

And for many reasons, strength training is often ignored by many people, but studies have shown that it can boost metabolism by 10% after exercise and increases fat burning by 100%.

Best of all, Resistance Training elevates our metabolism for up to 48 hours after a workout. It definitely pays fat loss dividends after your workout ends!

In contrast, with cardiovascular workouts (an hour of running) you will find your metabolism is only elevated for less than an hour before going back to normal.

So take note female readers, Weight lifting isn't a macho guy thing - it is a great way to burn tummy fat. The critical thing here is that in order to be fit and toned you NEED TO lift weights or do some type of STRENGTH TRAINING. Resistance training can literally change your entire body, let alone your self confidence and self esteem, and keep your body looking and feeling years younger.

So in order to overcome fat loss plateaus and maintain continual fat loss and muscle gain, look at a combination of interval training and strength training, and continually change your workout.

As long as you 'mix it up' and constantly change your exercises, the number of sets and repetitions for each exercise, the length of rest between each exercise and other variables, will demand your body to adapt and burn more fat (and energy).

By using challenging strength training, and choosing intervals over monotonous cardio, research has shown that your post workout metabolism is significantly greater.

Put it simply, the harder you train, the greater the increase in your post exercise metabolism.

Not only do will you save time in the long run; you will burn more calories, and strengthen and condition almost every muscle in your entire body if performed at the right intensity.

And you don't need fancy machines or an expensive gym membership -- all you need to do is eat healthy, and use a professional program, like Turbulence Training Routine which is a combination of interval training and strength training that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Or do it yourself.

This is the way to burn tummy fat and be in the best shape of your life!

Weight Loss Success Stories - My Own Success Story

We read weight loss success stories in advertisements in magazines, and see the weight loss success stories on info-mercials with "results are not typical" at the bottom of the screen. It's kind of depressing sometimes.

So, I decided that I would like to share my real weight loss success story with you. My hope is that it will help motivate you on your path to weight loss, or give you the push you need to commence your own weight loss program.

For me, it all started years ago. I would diet all the time. I would see some weight come off, feel good about myself, start eating normally again and pile all the weight back on. Every diet I went on would follow this pattern. I was your classic yo-yo dieter.

A few months ago I decided enough was enough and I was going to get rid of my yo-yo habit (I kicked cigarettes years ago, so I was sure I could kick another addiction!). I commenced a new program. This program would involve eating normally. This program would not involve starvation and eventual relapse. This program would involve some exercise. I planned to not only lose weight, but become healthy. I would target weight from fat, not weight from water.

I picked up a copy of a commercially available weight loss and (more importantly) weight control program.

The essence of the program is as follows:

1. Rather than eating three meals a day, change your habits and space your meals out to six per day.

2. Do some light exercise.

There are some things you need to calculate at first and some other things you need to measure, but basically that's it!

Using this program I have managed to lose about 20 pounds in two months. I am now a shadow of my former self. Importantly, I lost this weight without going hungry. As for maintenance, there's nothing to change-- I am eating more than enough food with more than enough variety and I can have a binge when I like.

I hope this weight loss success story was motivating in some way for you and helps you find it within yourself to achieve your long-term health goals.

Seven Weight Loss Tips

Have you ever wondered why it is that some people seem to find it so easy to lose weight, but you tend to struggle and struggle with it, only to find you've gained a few pounds instead? Then this article is specifically for you. Here are 7 tips that, if followed, should help just about anyone lose weight.

1. Give up fast food! Few things improve a person's health as drastically as a commitment to give up the fast food habit. If you can't give it up completely, then decide that you won't eat it more than once a month.

2. Change your snacking habits. Notice we didn't say to stop snacking. Truthfully, it's healthy to snack throughout the day--as long as the snacks are the right kind. If you eat fresh fruits and vegetables several times a day, including between meals, you decrease the likelihood that you'll overeat at meal time. However, if all of your snacks are fatty foods like potato chips and donuts, you'd be better off just to eat all you want at meal time.

3. Choose your oils wisely. Rather than using a lot of hydrogenated oils, eat foods with olive oil or Omega 9 fatty acids. These are healthier for you and co-exist better with a desire to lose weight.

4. Count your calories on paper. One of the most productive habits you can develop is to make yourself write down everything you eat during the day and how many calories it has. This will involve getting a notebook specifically for this purpose, as well as a book that contains calorie amounts (Or, if you prefer, there are several websites that contain anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 food items and their nutritional information). Writing down calories will do several things for you.

First, it will make you conscious of what you eat, pulling you out of that half-conscious state of eating when you're bored, without even thinking about what you're doing.

Second, it will sometimes make you decide not to eat. That's because looking up the item and writing it down can become a chore. Often we'd rather just not eat the food than to bother with recording its calorie count.

And third, by monitoring how many calories you've eaten, you can better understand how much more food you can eat during the day to reach your recommended calorie count.

5. Shun the tendency of comparing yourself to others. Remember that every person is different, and their bodies are different. This means that one person needs more calories a day than another person the same height. It also means that each person loses weight at a different rate, and in a different way, from everybody else.

6. Avoid the pills. Remember, there's still no such thing as a magic pill that makes you lose weight with no sacrifice.

7. Get a good bathroom scale and use it religiously. If your scale is analog, ditch it. They're notoriously inaccurate. Get a digital one instead, and force yourself to weigh each day, at the same time, wearing about the same amount of clothing.

Recommended Weight Loss Diet

Losing weight is always easy. That is against the thinking of most people but it really is a simple equation; calories taken - calories burnt = weight loss. Most people suffer from this problem because of the life style they follow, which is really getting hectic day by day, so to control one's weight we need a weight loss diet. In this modern world every one wants to look smart and weight is one really important part of personality, so a weight loss diet is a must for those who are obese.

Most important is to know the reason of your obesity. If you are a young adult then probably you eat more than what is required unless there is some physical problem which a doctor would be able to handle better. But it would be less appropriate to keep harping on the point of weight loss without taking into consideration the importance of exercising. It is really important as it completely rejuvenates your mind and we all know a healthy mind has a healthy body.

As we all know dieting is not at all easy, more than physical exertion it requires great mental strength on the part of individual to diet and loose weight. Weight loss is easy if your diet is healthy, that is more of fruits and vegetables, and devoid of junk food. Control your urge for colas and such fizzes and prefer water instead. One golden tip is to choose fresh fruit instead of fruit juice. Further enhancing the cause of losing weight, you really don't get fat by eating but eating wrong food will make you fat; so correct diet is the secret to weight loss.

Exercising is really a must for a healthy body as it is a system which makes your body feel that it is still working and needs to be fit, it accelerates your metabolic rate thus making you burn more calories and hence helps you in weight loss. One important thing not to do in a diet is to starve yourself as it makes you irritated , it may make you loose weight for a small amount but it is sure that later on if strict diet is given up, weight gain will be at a rapid rate. Some of the breathing exercises also help you in losing by increasing the metabolic rate, so yoga is also one good option which can be considered. Rapid social changes in world make us meet different people so confidence is must and your fitness is one great impact area so choice is yours - fit or fat.

Fat Burning Furnace Review - How to Achieve Maximum Fat Loss Fast?

Is the Fat Burning Furnace ebook really that much different from other fitness guides online? This ebook is written by Rob Poulos who used to be an overweight person. He claims that he has found the best methods to trigger fat loss and boost metabolism, but is that true? This article will discuss some of the sections I found in Fat Burning Furnace.

1. Diet and Nutrition Information

Rob says that a good diet contributes to at least 80% of the fat loss results you see, thus it goes into detail about how you should eat to maximize the effects of your workouts.

2. 15 Best and 15 Worst Foods

Rob then puts the foods that he recommends most, and the foods he wants you to stay away in a separate component called 15 Best and 15 Worst Foods. This part of the guide makes it much easier for me to focus on eating the right foods to trigger fat loss, and I simply have to avoid all the foods listed as the 15 worst.

3. What Makes Fat Burning Furnace Different From Other Guides?

The core of this ebook focuses on using workouts to trigger fat loss and metabolism increase. Yet the workouts he recommends do not require a significant amount of effort, and take a fairly short time than those recommend by other guides. He has also chosen to use all multi-joint exercises, as he says that such exercises are much better for fat loss.

4. Conclusion

This ebook has helped me progress slowly from a beginner to the more intensive workouts I am able to perform today. This guide is most unique in terms of the type and frequency of workouts it recommends, and has slowly helped me achieve a ripped body.

Weight Loss Surgery: Benefits and Risks

You may be considering weight loss surgery if you are overweight or obese. For many people, surgical weight reduction is one of the only viable ways to lose a significant amount of weight and enjoy better health. However, it's important to realize that this is a very serious undertaking. You should definitely spend time researching the topic and, if possible, talking with people who have already had a weight reduction procedure performed. Understanding the benefits and risks involved with weight loss surgery is absolutely vital to making an informed decision. To help you get started, here is a brief guide...

Benefits:

* Fast Weight Loss: Obviously this is the biggest benefit of weight loss surgery. Immediately following the surgery most people begin to lose weight quickly. This rapid weight loss usually continues for at least a year and a half, leading to a very significant reduction in body weight. It's important to note however that many people begin to regain weight within 2 years, especially if they have not made any healthy lifestyle/diet changes!

* Improvement of Obesity-Related Health Conditions: For many people, the improvement in their overall health, following weight loss surgery, is just as important as the weight loss itself. And for good reason: people who have suffered from debilitating obesity-related conditions (such as diabetes) for years often experience tremendous improvements within a short period of time.

Risk and Side-Effects:

* Death: A small percentage of weight loss surgery patients die during the operation or from complications in the days and weeks following the surgery.

* Post-surgery complications: Some patients must have follow-up procedures to correct complications, which can include infections and hernias.

* Nutritional deficiencies: Some types of weight loss surgeries reduce the body's ability to absorb important vitamins and minerals. Many patients must take diet supplements on a daily basis or risk developing anemia, osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease, etc.

* Gallstones: More than a third of gastric surgery patients develop gallstones due to the rapid weight loss that occurs in the months following a weight reduction procedure.

* Side-effects: Some of the most common side-effects experienced by weight loss surgery patients include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, excessive sweating, increased gas, and dizziness.

As you can see, weight loss surgery carries some huge benefits along with some very significant risks. If you are severely obese, it is definitely an option for reducing your body weight and improving - or even eliminating - many of your obesity-related health conditions. Just understand the risk and be prepared to make some relatively extensive lifestyle changes after the procedure. If you are not severely obese you should definitely consider diet and exercise options before you think about weight loss surgery.
